Sorority Life
So I am in Alpha Phi and I love my sorority. I never thought I would join a sorority when first coming to App, but I saw some of my friends in different sororities here before I came to college and I thought it seemed like a great idea to go through recruitment! Turns out, I am soooo glad that I did!!!! I love my philanthropy and the friends I have made and the strong sisterhood we share. I am proud of us as well. I know many people in our class are in various sororities, and I think its cool we have that diversity. One thing that has always bothered me is that people in sororities sometimes tend to compete with one another or label one another. Its a natural thing that happens and many people do it, but I have never understood it because we all joined these groups of girls because it is where we felt like we fit in the best, why is that a competition? We're happy there so why does it matter? I know many people do not see it that way which is good, and the way I look at it too, it just erkkksss me when people try to put one another down for dumb, petty reasons. Whether you are in my sorority or not, Were on this campus together ya know!? hahah I see the competition on my friends "yik-yak" .. pretty childish I know.. but its like almost every organization is hated on at some point.. I guess its life though. Just wish people saw the bigger picture and the good that all sororities and other clubs/organizations bring to this campus, rather than the "image" people label one another with, good or bad, without getting to actually know them individually (They're trashy, They're ugly, pretty, conceited, too much of this or that). Just get to know one another, ya know? Everyone labels and judges in pretty much every place in the world, just wish it wasn't like that I suppose.

AMEN SISTA!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely whether it was Panhellenic competition or nastiness from outside of the Greek community I never understood why it mattered to so many other people who our sisters are. I'm no longer a part of the Greek community but it was an amazing experience for me that I wouldn't trade for anything else and I hate that so many people ar scared away from trying it because of nastiness.
